Rotomod in association with the initiatives to save the « big blue »
Participation in the operation « Clean Calanques »
On Saturday June 6th, around the Calanques of Marseille, one of the most beautiful places on the French Riviera, soon to be classified as a national park, an operation « clean Calanques » was organized. More than 300 people took part in this event, on and under the water in order to pick the rubbish.
This operation coordinated by the association MerTerre was sponsored by the Nationnal Office of Waters and Forests.
Rotomod equipped the regional team of « Planète Urgence » (NGO which organizes congresses for humanitarian and environmental issues) with 4 kayaks. Two of which were Tango Vision models, equipped with a port that enables the paddler to see under water and easily locate the rubbish. The other two kayaks were tandem models transformed into a catamaran in order to hold the rubbish picked by the divers.
With this initiative, Rotomod has shown, once more, that the Kayak Spirit has been and still is eco-friendly. CO2 emissions with a RTM sea kayak = 0g/l
Participation in the Planète Urgence’s first mission Mediterranean (N° 1109 on Planète Urgence’s website)
In September 2009, Planète Urgence organized two 10 day missions aboard two sailboats around the Golden Islands (Hyères, Porquerolles, Port Cros and Pelagos) in order to observer the great dolphins.
Rotomod has taken part in this event, by equipping the team with kayaks for underwater vision and the catamaran in order to locate the Caulerpa Taxifolia and pick up rubbish. Many paddlers are keen on taking part in the Planète Urgence’s missions and especially the mission N° 1109 “Fragile Méditerranée”.
If you wish to join these missions in 2009, you can still register on the Planète Urgence’s website :
